Hi Sweet and Sour,
Well here’s one that landed in my face during the elections. My daughter who voted for the first time recently told me that she’s worked it all out. So apparently as we age, we become more insecure, so we tend to become more conservative trying to hold on to that which we know. Humans don’t like change and as we age, we like it even less. The push for change, therefore, will always come mostly from the young.
Well, it got me thinking that maybe she’s onto something. As we age, we become more and more nostalgic craving that which we used to have or were familiar. How many older people can all of us recall hearing saying, “that’s not how it was in the good old days” and “This is not the Australia I grew up in. Time, we got it back”. I think the truth is that we oldies forget that society is constantly changing and always was even back then.
So, panellists, my question to you is, are we conservative voters out of step with natural progress and evolution and just trying to hold back the tide of progress in order to entrench our comfort zones?
